This is my personal experience with the Lapiplasty procedure. Recovery times may vary. Only a healthcare professional can provide the recovery plan that is right for you. The following information about my experience with Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™ is brought to you in partnership with Treace Medical Concepts, Inc.*
Let’s talk about what it’s like getting back to my lifestyle after bunion correction! I’ve talked all about recovery and now I get to talk about the really fun part- getting back to going full steam ahead toward an active life getting outdoors and chasing a toddler around!
I want to tell you where I was in life at the 16 week post procedure point. This is when I was really able to get back to more extreme hikes, run, felt confident in a workout and walk around the zoo with my son!! If you recall, in the very beginning of this journey I knew I needed intervention for my bunion after going to the zoo with my son as an infant and having to leave because I was in such terrible pain.
I had Lapiplasty 3D Bunion Correction done in September and by January, we were back at the zoo having the time of our lives and I wasn’t in that dreadful pain anymore. It was an incredible experience to have everything come full circle and know my journey had such a happy ending.
I was also able to return to my favorite hike- Piestewa Peak in Phoenix. This is an intense hike without about an 1150 elevation gain in 2.1 miles. It’s basically an outdoor stairmaster and I love it. I’ve done this hundreds of times but this was my first time without my bunion distracting me. What a dream come true.
In February, I tried something brand new to me and that was snowboarding. Yes, I was snowboarding five months after my surgery! I had the time of my life learning this new skill.
Now, I did still notice some swelling after using my foot so much so icing after activities was still important!
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I love road trips. In fact, that may be why you’re here in the first place! The thought of being off my feet and being unable to drive was a huge reason I put off bunion surgery for more than a decade so I just want to reiterate how happy I am that I did not miss out on more than a few days without driving in my personal experience. I can now drive long distances and in early April even drive my sister and son on a road trip from Phoenix to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks in Utah. We even hiked the famous Navajo Loop and Queens Garden in Bryce.
By now you can probably see why I’m so thrilled with my decision to have this procedure done. It truly changed my life and I’ve made so many dreams come true with my little boy thanks to Lapiplasty. Here’s to hitting more trails and making more memories without bunion pain!
